MICHELLE BURDER October 2007

Michele Burder’s study of trees was inspired during an artist’s residency at Bundanon, NSW in 2005 and has continued around Australia and the UK. Working between the mediums of drawing and painting, Burders delicate compositions strip back the prosaic landscaping of public parks and roadsides to reveal a lyrical beauty. In undertone, Burder subverts the traditional passive role of trees in the picaresque urban landscape as individual trees and foliage clusters are displaced from their environment and bought to the forefront of the picture plane.
